October in the Heber Valley is when the season really shows off. Crisp mornings give way to golden afternoons, the mountains surrounding town turn every shade of amber and rust, and the calendar fills up with the kind of small-town gatherings that make this corner of Utah feel like home. From pumpkin patches to live theater to a weekend built around biathlon and cross-country skiing, there’s no shortage of ways to spend an October weekend here.

Residents of The Springs at Coyote Ridge don’t have to go far to find it all. Nestled between Heber City and Midway, our townhome community puts you minutes from the farms, resorts, and town squares hosting this month’s biggest events. Here’s what’s on the calendar this October.

Fall Festival at Kohler Creamery | All October (Closed Sundays)

Heber Valley Cheese & Kohler Creamery turns its working dairy farm into a full-blown fall playground every October. Expect a hay maze, slides, bounce houses, a jump pad, corn pits, yard games, and pumpkins galore, all set against the backdrop of a real family farm. The festival runs daily except Sundays throughout the month.

Once the sun sets, the farm shifts into something spookier. Thursday through Saturday nights, tractor wagons carry guests on a haunted hayride, followed by a haunted hay maze for those brave enough to walk through. The ride runs about 20 minutes and continues rain or shine, so comfortable walking shoes are a must.

Heber Valley Railroad Train Rides | All October

The historic Heber Valley Railroad offers a rotating lineup of themed train rides throughout October, perfect for families and rail enthusiasts alike.

  • Mondays, Thursdays & Saturdays: Deer Creek Express, Witches Night Out, The Halloween Express
  • Saturdays: The Pumpkin Train
  • October 17: Wine & Cheese Tasting Train

Oktoberfest at Sundance Resort | September 18 – October 4

Robert Redford’s mountain resort leans into the season with a limited-run Oktoberfest menu featuring rotating dishes inspired by traditional German cuisine, paired with a lineup of seasonal brews. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or settling in for the evening, the atmosphere makes it worth the drive.

  • Dates: September 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and October 2, 3, 4
  • Lookout: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Owl Bar: 12:00 – 4:00 PM

Fall Market at Country Gardens | October 2–3

Country Gardens and Nursery hosts its annual Fall Market on October 2 and 3, and it’s about as close to a Hallmark movie set as you’ll find in Utah. Local vendor booths, seasonal food, pumpkin painting, a kids’ bounce house, and a petting zoo round out a day built for the whole family.

“The Crucible” at Midway Town Hall | October 2–10

For a different kind of October chill, Midway Town Hall stages Arthur Miller’s classic “The Crucible” from October 2 through 10. The production brings Miller’s story of fear, accusation, and moral courage to life with powerful performances and raw emotional intensity, a fitting piece of theater for the season.

Saturday Farmers Market at Midway Town Square | October 3 & 10

Running through the end of its June-to-October season, the Midway Town Square Farmers Market wraps up with two more Saturday dates, October 3 and 10. Local growers and artisans set up shop from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with fresh produce and handmade goods.

Harvest Market at Sundance Mountain Resort | October 3 & 10

Sundance’s Harvest Mini Markets return October 3 and 10 as the resort’s signature celebration of the season. Handpicked artisans and craftsmen, seasonal food, live music, and activities for every age group make this a relaxed way to spend a fall afternoon in the mountains. Admission is complimentary.

Schutzenski Festival at Soldier Hollow | October 9–11

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center hosts the Schutzenski Festival October 9 through 11, a weekend built around biathlon and cross-country roller ski racing with top athletes from across the country. The festivities open with a 5K/10K run or walk on the Olympic trails, plus a free 1K Dino Fun Run for kids 13 and under, followed by elite-level races throughout the day.

Beyond the competition, expect food trucks, a beer garden, a “Wild West” shooting competition, and hands-on Discover Biathlon opportunities for anyone curious about the sport. General attendance is free, though the fun run and roller ski races require registration.

Heber Valley Mounted Shooting Competition | October 15–17

From October 15 to 17, Heber City hosts a Mounted Shooters competition showcasing riders and their horses in fast-paced events that blend precision shooting with serious horsemanship. Western merchandise vendors, food trucks, and family-friendly entertainment round out this celebration of frontier tradition.

Heber Halloween Fest | October 30

Heber City Main Street Park hosts the community’s Halloween send-off on Friday, October 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The free Halloween Festival includes trick-or-treating, a carnival, a spook alley, food trucks, and live entertainment, making it an easy, low-key way to close out the month with the whole family.

However you like to spend your October, the Heber Valley delivers it in style, and The Springs at Coyote Ridge puts you right in the middle of it. Our Heber City townhomes offer easy access to Midway’s town square, Sundance’s mountain trails, and everywhere in between, so you can make the most of fall without a long drive to get there.
